Sunscreen regulation

The regulation of sunscreens is complex with different requirements applying in Australia and New Zealand. Some sunscreens are now regulated as cosmetics rather than therapeutic products

In both countries products need to comply with the Australia New Zealand Standard AS/NZS2604:1998 and be individually tested using methods in the Standard. In Australia there is a separate Code of GMP for sunscreens, separate stability testing guidelines and specific labelling requirements in guidelines and in legislation.

Our team has been closely involved in the regulation of sunscreens for many years. We can help you ensure that your sunscreen products are fully compliant with all relevant requirements.
